Difficult race for DGSPORT Herock at the 24 Heures Moto

The DGSPORT Herock Team experienced a challenging endurance race at the iconic Circuit Bugatti last weekend finishing 20th general and 10th in their category. Hopes were high when the team secured the pole position in the night practice on Thursday evening. All was again confirmed after a promising second qualifying session that put us on the grid in 13th position and 5th Superstock.

The 24 hours race started with some strange braking problems after the first stint, but these were quickly fixed and all riders could get their pace up to speed immediately. This resulted that at mid-race we were 8th general and 2nd Superstock bike with already a number of laps advance on the 3rd team in our category.

Unfortunately a small mistake around 7 am in the early morning made us lose 10 minutes in the box to fix the bike after a crash. We then got down to P13 and P6 in Superstock. In the next stints riders pushed hard to get P5 again. The gap to the next place was more than 5 laps so difficult to close at this stage of the race.

Disaster struck at 12h13 when David made a huge highsider on an oil spot – a left-over from the many big crashes that happened during the night. As a true warrior he pushed back the bike who was heavily damaged !

Our mechanics from Campus Francorchamps did a hell of a job by rebuilding a complete bike (only chassis and engine where still ok) in less than 40 minutes.

At 12h53 Lucas got back out for his next stint and his pace confirmed the bike had been perfectly rebuilt.

We crossed the finish line at 15h. It was a big relief after a stressful and disappointing race as we had much higher hopes before the start aswell as during the race. But this is endurance and when lady luck is not on your side it is difficult to finish on the podium. But don’t worry, we will be back even stronger in 2014 !
